I’m Dean Harrison, and I run personalised guided fly fishing trips in New Zealand, with a particular focus on Canterbury, the West Coast and the spectacular rivers and lakes of the South Island.
We’re talking big wild trout, beautiful backcountry, braided rivers, alpine scenery and the kind of fishing that gets under your skin.
And yes, sometimes it involves a fair bit of walking!
New Zealand Fly Fishing Is Something Special
If you’ve never experienced fly fishing in New Zealand, you’re in for a treat.
Our fishing is quite different from many other places around the world. Much of the fishing is sight fishing, which means we’re looking for individual trout, working out where they’re holding, sneaking into position and presenting a fly without sending them heading for the hills.
It can be challenging.
It can be frustrating.
It can be absolutely bloody brilliant.
And when you finally watch a big New Zealand brown trout turn and take your fly, you’ll understand why people travel halfway around the world to do it.

I guide throughout Canterbury, the South Island and the West Coast, depending on the sort of adventure you’re after.
That might mean:
- Wading a beautiful Canterbury river
- Chasing brown trout through crystal-clear water
- Searching a braided river for a big rainbow
- Fishing a South Island lake during an evening rise
- Heading into more remote backcountry
- Spending several days fishing and camping
