Fishing is more than a pastime for me, it's been a hobby, an interest, a passion, and my profession for a long time. Until recently I guided more on an ad hoc part-time basis as a sideline to my other interests, but with a lifestyle choice for the better I am available more frequently to take groups or individuals for fishing and back country adventures.

I have been all over the world fishing, and still think New Zealand is an amazing place to fish. It's different, exciting, and fresh. It's very social too, especially for us as we have the homestay option to my tours. The South Island is my speciality, and I take trips for a day, to several weeks, from individuals to groups. We can camp, hut, stay on my boat 'The Goddess' or even chance a hotel or two! The best of Kiwi hospitality, comfort, and fun, probably with a beer and a cook up at camp.

Fishing facilities for hire - Vehicles, Gear and Watercraft...

Whatever you have planned I may have the gear to make your trip that bit sweeter. Regardless of whether I guide you as well, my facilities are available for hire. If you're looking for something that is not listed, email me, usually I have it!

Important Tip - You need a licence to fish or hunt in NZ! See my links page or click here to obtain one before you start.
It's important to fish an 'untouched' location to get the choice trout. It makes sense to have the best means to get there, and the best equipment. I'm known for providing a quality experience - with a combination of the beauty of fishing, with the finest tools on hand, we're in for an awesome trip you'll never forget.

Vehicle hire includes FREE:
Tent, Pack, Ground rolls, Cooking gear - 2 or 3 burner cooker, Portable table, Cups, Plates, Cutlery, Pans, Fishing reference books to the South Island, Light, Chilli bin (an esky or portable cooler). Optional also Sleeping bags ($30 cleaning fee per bag is the only charge to use these). WOW! All this comes standard at no hire cost - awesome!!! Obviously, gear that is damaged or lost will be charged for replacement/repair. I can also do a loan/back up Sage rod with advance notice, any other gear you need I probably have...so just ask!!
Gear in the pic to the right is a sample of what I can lend you - from left to right: two man tent, good sized day pack (larger full pack also available), chilli bin/esky/cool-box, 3-burner cooker with billy, jug, gas bottle, water bottle, didymo gear cleaning kit, sleeping bag, groundrolls, 2 chairs, 3 sage 4piece rods, Reid's NZ Atlas (the best road and river map available in NZ), 2 South Island fishing books with rivers to fish and tips on local flies and habitat and last but not least a cutlery set. Power and Purpose 'The Old Trout'...

The Old Trout (Try-Fly) is a 1994 VX Toyota Landcruiser including serious off-road tyres. A 4-speed diesel automatic, she has the grunt to get you there and back in style. Air-conditioned, with a built-in fridge in the centre console your Coca Cola will always be cold! There is a 6-disc CD stacker for your "noise of choice" so you are away laughing.
With the secure Thule roof box for plenty of gear or valuables, and a Nokia cellular car kit (you can top-up the existing SIM or bring your own) she is 'the ducks nuts' when it comes to fishing vehicles.
All my vehicles come with the same requirements - a full NZ or International Drivers Licence, insurance is $20 a day, or by negotiation on longer bookings a $2500 excess for claims is held as a credit card bond and refunded to your card when the vehicle is returned in good order. Crafty Kahu...

This handy run-around is a 4-speed automatic diesel Nissan Mistral (licence DBG949). Easy to handle, Kahu is spacious and ideal for fishing. You can see it in use here lakeside. It's got plenty of stowing room for all your gear, and it's not too posh to feel you can't get it down to where the action is.

The Green Machine....

Do your trip in comfort and style! The Green Machine is a 2004 Toyota Landcruiser with low profile Pirelli mags/tyres and 4WD this is the ultimate in luxury. Leather interior, CD stacker, Cruise control, 7 seats, Diesel, 4-speed automatic with inbuilt centre-consol fridge. A bonus joy to drive in addition to the excitement. If you can afford it, this would be my vehicle of choice.

Honda Quad Bike...

Suitable for all vehicles except the Turtle, the Honda 350 Quad Bike makes getting to and from those remote locations much easier! The bike is perfect for back country adventures when you are covering larger distances. Park the bike at where you anticipate the days fishing to end, letting you ride back to your truck instead of walking. Great for the days you walk 10 or more kilometers up a river, giving you a lot more fishing time without the added stress of walking it back again! The bike comes with its OWN TRAILER and a tank of fuel. Definitely a must for those who have any minor ailments, knee strain or just for making the most of your precious fishing time. The trailer tows easily behind all the vehicles but not The Turtle.
As with the vehicles, the insurance is only $20 a day, a $2000 excess for claims is held as a credit card bond and refunded to your card when the vehicle is returned in good order. At this time, as the vehicle is to be used for 'off road' biking, you will not need a licence. Speak to me about alternative usage.

Lake-edge Boating and Float tube...

For a little extra you can hire a fully collapsible 2.4 metre Zeebec inflatable boat from me, with either 8hp or 15hp Yamaha outboard.
This little Miss comes with life jackets and a full tank of fuel and features a solid insert floor.
The boat will fit into all the vehicles except the Turtle - have a chat to me about your gear, as it does take up stowing room, but I think worth every inch for the ability to "go where you want" to fish rather than just where you can walk too. Awesome fun too!
The Zeebec packs down into two bags plus the motor, and will fit into the boot/trunk of most larger cars (if you have your own vehicle and want to hire this independently, no problem).
Both the Zeebec and the state of the art "float tube" we have on offer are great for lake-edge action. That's the float tube in the bottom picture to the right.

Easy to use, so handy!

Hire for the Zeebec is $75NZ per day. Float tube comes as a free extra with this if it's not already loaned out. Make sure you ask me for it when you go to book!

FREEBIE LOANS TO GET YOU ON YOUR WAY...A reminder that I have extra gear for loan should you need it, and if I don't have it I'll try to source it for you. Conditions of use - return in good order or obviously a fix-it or replacement charge will be incurred. All of my gear is great quality, even if it's an older item, it'll be well cleaned and looked after. I do recommend that folk bring their own boots as they are fairly size specific. This is a great pointer - bring some gore-tex waders, they are light and pack down easily, but really make a difference against the elements or cold. Ensure you speak to me about what I can sort out for you.

Start your trip to New Zealand with a night with us on our own trout stream...

Whether you have me take you fishing or not, come stay with us a night or two at Aldabrook on the outskirts of Christchurch and get some pointers and tips to start your NZ trip. Set on 16 acres, we have almost a kilometre of our own river boundary that is YOURS TO FISH AT NO CHARGE when you stay with us.

Why stay in a hotel or motel when you can have your own independent unit, separate to the main house (includes fridge, cooking facilities (continental breakfast provided), shower bathroom, tv, stereo, microwave and a 30 metre walk to the river!!). Some cattle and our border terrier 'Bindi' add to the 'feel' of the place. The Myrtle's (chooks) are a walk up the property. We can include meals, or you can do your own thing. There's always a rod set up for you to take a stroll along the rivers' edge. Trout, eels, and salmon (in season) are all in the stream...a beautiful spring-fed flow, means it is always clear and fishable. Ducks and waterfowl abound over the winter months.

For every secure booking we will collect you from Christchurch International Airport...we are only 15 minutes away. There's no better way to start or end your wild fishing adventure than a relax at our beautiful farm.
